A unique opportunity for 8 students to explore unlimited shapes for hollow polymer clay vessels at a charming 17th Century artist's retreat in the south of France! The tiny medieval village of Durfort, an historic center of artisans creating copper vessels, forms a picturesque and appropriate backdrop for Kathleen's advanced training in the creation of polymer clay vessels. Each student will make an interior mold, then a lidded vessel, then a purse(s). With a small class size in an inspiring setting, emphasis will be placed on individualized attention in developing one's own voice in the context of polymer vessel creation. Design decision principles will also be covered as we explore key surface treatment techniques including Skinner-blend overlay, carving, and large-scale canework.

Our Facility. Situated on a mountain stream about an hour and a quarter from Toulouse, France, the La Cascade artists' retreat is a renovated 3-story medieval house which features modern bathrooms, gourmet kitchen, a large living room with fireplace, dining terrace overlooking the stream, and a spacious art studio on the top floor with work tables, skylights, and ancient beams. For more information about La Cascade and Durfort, visit Gwen Gibson's website, GwenGibson.com.

Getting There. The historic village of Durfort is about an hour and 15 minutes from Toulouse. When registrations are complete, Kathleen will facilitate coordination of shared rental cars from the Toulouse Airport, which is a convenient and popular way for international participants to attend workshops at La Cascade.

Fee and Payment. The workshop fee, 1355 Euros or USD$1995, excludes airfare and transportation to Toulouse and Durfort but includes tuition, double-occupancy lodging in La Cascade and 7 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 5 dinners, and a Welcome Tea all prepared by La Cascade's own French chef. Also included will be a couple field trips to neighboring villages of artistic significance. Registration requires a 355 Euros/USD$500 deposit by 20 April 2008, with 1000 Euros/USD$1495 balance paid by 1 August 2008. Payments by Visa or Mastercard can be accepted with US dollar amounts converted to Euro equivalent at the prevailing exchange rate.

A Great Time to Study in France! The fall is gorgeous in the south of France and the tourist crush is over so don't miss this unforgettable opportunity to significantly advance your polymer clay skills in this picturesque mountain valley setting! If you are French or European, I hope you will take this workshop; my French-speaking daughter will be assisting me.
Info and registration: Kathleen. REGISTRATION IS COMPLETE. Waiting list applicants will be notified on 2 August 2008.
